Carolina von wickenburg
Hailing from Cuba, Carolina Wickenburg (born Puig Arango) worked as a sculptor of large, expressive bronze figures for years before trying her hand at jewelry, beginning with her iconic and simple Hippo pendant, the protector of womanhood. Carolina believes that jewelry can be more than an ornament or a status symbol. She strives to create pieces that speak to the wearer personally, that they can draw strength and meaning from, that evoke deeply personal memories and stories.
All of the pieces are handcrafted by Carolina in clay, using simple, centuries-old tools and traditions, then cast in precious metals. In an age when most jewelry is mass-produced by machines based on computer renderings, Carolina’s work stands out for its texture, authenticity and handmade feel, and sits at the intersection of sculpture and jewelry.
